You should keep the following in mind
when planning to build a horse barn:
-
Make sure your local zoning ordinances
allow for such a structure. You may be required to obtain a variance.
-
The most inexpensive structure is a pole
barn. You really don't need pole barn plans for a simple pole
barn. If you can find a friend or neighbor that has built one of these
before to help you, you should be able to build a pole barn as shown in
the links below - they are fairly easy to build. Otherwise, you could
hire a carpenter or handyman to get you going. Make sure to use proper
footings (or a slab) and make sure your area of the footings/slab is
well drained. If needed, bring in plenty of fill. If you
build with a poor foundation in a wet area, the barn will quickly sink,
shift, or heave due to frost. You can never put in too much fill - the
higher and drier, the better. Take good measurements when laying
the pole barn out so as to keep everything square. When you put up
the trusses, make sure to have lots of help!
