To sharpen lawn mower blades from a push mower, you should remove the blade, secure it in a vice, and use a tool similar to the one shown below to sharpen the edge.  Another, perhaps better alternative would be to use a bench grinder to sharpen lawn mower blades.  In either case, use protective leather gloves and protective eyewear.
